Title: “WISDOM”
Size: 20” W x 16” H (unframed)
Story:
While much of what the Buddha taught is universal in thought, there are few mentions of how to balance one’s family life with the demands of finding inner peace and enlightenment. His wife followed his footsteps and became a Buddhist nun, but she sent her son, Rahula, to his father for his inheritance. It must be remembered that Buddha came from a noble family, so under normal circumstances his son would have lived a charmed life as a prince. But when his son asked for his inheritance his father instead gave him permission to become a monk, and then bestowed his greatest gift… wisdom. For only with wisdom can one enjoy the fruits of a life well lived.
Materials:
Acrylic, fluorescent and metallic paints on wooden panel, floating on wooden under-panel covered with Yixing plaster with impressions formed using 17th - 18th century Asian fabric stamps, flanked with late 1800’s Tibetan thangka cloth, wrapped with vintage Chinese embroidery and beadwork from a baby carrier, wrapped in contemporary red Indian silk, then wrapped with late 1800’s Chinese silk brocade.
